Peter McKinnon takes the DJI Mavic 2 Pro on its maiden voyage [video]

Peter McKinnon takes the DJI Mavic 2 Pro on its maiden voyage [video]

Peter McKinnon just released his first impressions video on YouTube. As always the video is very well put together and highly enjoyable to watch. He loves the new DJI Mavic 2 Pro so much that he is considering selling all his other drones as this new one basically replaces them all. Of course, the Mavic Air is a smaller package that is easier to bring along. And, the Phantom 4 Pro arguably still has better image quality and delivers 4K video at 60fps. But, if you have to pick one drone that does it all. Well, you really cannot go wrong with the DJI Mavic 2 Pro.

Cinematic footage of Antarctic Ice Marathon captured by drone [video]

Cinematic footage of Antarctic Ice Marathon captured by drone

Antarctica has to be one of the least human-friendly places on earth, one could visit in terms of weather conditions, yet last week it was the scene of some amazing feats, including the fastest Antarctic mile ever run, as well as the Antarctic Ice Marathon and 100k(!) race events. The event has been documented partly by drone in the amazing video you can see below. The scenery at the Union Glacier in Antarctica, just 650 miles from the South Pole, is amazingly beautiful and the drone footage is very cinematic.

Grab a coffee and enjoy watching this short movie.

Large shark swims right past swimmers caught by drone [video]

Last weekend in South Beach Florida, Kenny Melendez, who flies drones professionally, was flying his drone when he spotted a large shadow in the water right next to a swimmer. He flew the drone towards it to get a better shot of the large shark, which he believes to have been a tiger shark, very close to the shore and the swimmers.

Man flies drone through rock and into Iceland’s world of wonders [video]

Man flies drone through rock in iceland

Today I stumbled upon this video on Facebook, from a talented drone pilot, who on a recent trip to Iceland flew his DJI Mavic Pro through a rock and into Iceland’s world of wonders. By doing so he convinced me that;

  1. you don’t need crazy expensive gear to make amazing footage and,
  2. I need to book a flight to Iceland asap and witness the amazing landscape and scenery myself.

Drone video shows widespread devastation in Puerto Rico from Hurricane Maria

Drone video shows widespread devastation in Puerto Rico from Hurricane Maria

Hurricane Maria caused massive damage and destruction in Puerto Rico, resulting into a major humanitarian crisis. Many people around the world have heard and read about the disaster in on the island, but few have seen any recent video footage of the area. This is not surprising as large parts of the island are without electricity, although Tesla was able to supply power to a hospital recently, and are inaccessible as a result of blocked roads and damaged bridges. So the only way to show the extend of the damage is to take to the air. The National  Weather Service was on it and send their drone into the air to capture the following dramatic footage.

Drone video shows Border Wall Prototypes in Otay Mesa, San Diego, CA

Drone video shows Border Wall Prototypes in Otay Mesa, San Diego, CA

U.S. Customs and Border Protection released b-roll video footage showing various prototypes of the border wall Trump promised during his campaign. The video is shot from a drone that flies over the various wall prototypes and like Matt Novak from Gizmodo points out: “the drone video of border wall prototypes accidently shows how worthless the wall would be.” Trump said that the purpose of the wall was to stop: “drugs from pouring into this country”. However, any affordable and easily obtainable consumer drone would have no problem flying over the wall to drop drugs on the other side.

Race drone soars like a bird along Swiss mountain tops [video]

Race drone soars like a bird along Swiss mountain tops [video]

Have you ever wondered what it’s like to soar like a bird along mountaintops in the Swiss Alps? Very few people get to see the snow-capped mountains this way. However, this amazing drone video “Elevations” brings it right to your screen.

The short film, “Elevations,” was made by Montreal-based Swiss physicist Gabriel Kocher, who has a second career as a drone racer (Gab707). He finished second in the Drone Racing League’s Allianz World Championship earlier this year. The drone in the short movie races over a rocky valley up the face the face of a mountain. On its way up it passes over waterfalls, flies around moutaintops and captures breathtaking 360-degree views.

USPS postman delivers mail in burned down Santa Rosa neighborhood [Drone video]

Even though most homes have completely burned to the ground and the homeowners have left, the mailman is still doing his rounds, as captured on video by drone pilot Douglas Thron. The almost eerie and apocalypse-like short film Thron uploaded to YouTube shows the extent of the devastation. Apart from the mailman doing his job, the streets show no sign of life. Houses are burned to the ground and skeletons of cars are still sitting in the driveways. Why would the USPS deliver mail to homes that no longer exist?
