A US District Court has found that GoPro has infringed on two camera streaming patents from the once action camera company Contour. The patents allow the ability to record on the camera while simultaneously streaming the footage to another device.

The GoPro Hero 9 has appeared to leak in product images that show off the new front color display, removable lens, the price, and a relocated USB-C port. A promotional image was also leaked by GoPro themselves. The new leak suggests GoPro will introduce the front color display, putting it in line with DJI’s Osmo Action.

We have come across what is believed to be the front shell of the upcoming GoPro Hero 9 action camera. With a larger front display cut-out, the appearance hints at a look similar to the DJI Osmo Action.

Last month a new GoPro action camera appeared on the FCC’s testbench, one month later and there is still only one new listing on the FCC’s database. This could mean GoPro will be ditching the two-camera release model and creating an all-in-one GoPro and 360-degree camera.

A new FCC listing from GoPro has appeared online earlier this week with what looks to be its next camera, the new GoPro Hero 9. While we are only able to see the location of the FCC’s label within the camera software, looking at the menus reveals something new.

We’ve known for some time now that a new GoPro Hero 8 and a possible GoPro Max 360 action camera will come to market before the end of the year. Today this was confirmed by GoPro in the form of a short video shared on its social media accounts.
There is a lot of chatter online about the upcoming DJI event on May 15th. The lack of hype around the event almost certainly means it won’t be a new drone. For the GoPro Awards, the action camera company invites people to submit the most amazing GoPro footage they can record. Well, this video of an FPV drone flying in between the parachute strings of a BASE jumper qualifies as some of the craziest FPV drone footage, we have seen. Check it out in the video below.
In another very good and detailed review from DC Rainmaker about the new GoPro Hero 7, he mentions that the action camera company actually went through the trouble of updating the firmware for the Karma drone and grip to be compatible with the camera’s new features… “For the six people still flying the GoPro Karma drone”, he said with a smirk. Of course there’s more to the new camera so jump right in!

At the end of last week, news broke that GoPro would be eliminating 200 to 300 jobs from its Karma drone division. Now, the company is reportedly putting itself up for sale (updated below).
In a public statement announcing their preliminary fourth quarter 2017 results, GoPro also stated that it will exit the unmanned aerial vehicle or drone market after having laid off all its employees in their drone department last week and after selling the remaining Karma drone inventory.
Currently, you can pick up a Karma drone for $999 with a GoPro Hero6 camera, just keep in mind that you’re buying a product that has been discontinued and that will not receive any further updates, although GoPro states that it will service and support Karma owners.
It would not surprise us if GoPro were to discount the Karma even more in the future.
GoPro, the company that we know from the Karma drone and action cameras, is laying off between 200 to 300 people this week, mostly from its drone division. The company had sent its workers a letter earlier this week informing them of the layoffs. According to GoPro, the job cuts are part of a larger restructuring “to better align our resources with business requirements”.
Today, in a live broadcast, GoPro’s CEO Nick Goodman announced the new ‘Follow’ and ‘Watch’ features for their Karma drone. Apparently, GoPro is unlocking these options through new software as the drone already had the technical capabilities. In the ‘Follow’ mode the drone will follow you (obviously), but only if you have the controller with you. As you can imagine this may be a problem for certain activities where a lot of body movement is required, like skateboarding or mountain biking for instance. In other situations, like when you are hiking, it might not be a big deal at all.
