Everything we know so far about DJI’s mid-week release

DJI announced Monday that a new product will be announced this Wednesday at 8:00 A.M. ET. Like with all of the company’s releases some of the details have leaked, so here’s everything we know so far.

Update: DJI officially announced the DJI Mic 2 bundles.

A second generation DJI Mic 2?

Well it’s not hard to figure out what might be coming out this Wednesday as the tagline for the event reads, “Pocket-Sized Pro Audio.” Currently DJI has two wireless mic options, the original DJI Mic that you can buy in a pack of two with charging case and receiver and then the second generation Mic 2 that right now only comes with the new Pocket 3.

According to leaks by Igor Bogdanov, Wednesday morning we will be receiving a new stand-alone second generation mic set. This will come with a charging case, wireless receiver, and two Mic 2 transmitters. The bundle will also come with all the fixings needed to connect the receiver to cameras, phones, or computers, wind muffs, magnetic clips, and carrying case.

All of that is the same compared to the first generation DJI Mics, which I’ve been using for the last few months and are amazing so these have to be better, right? Some differences that you’ll see right away appears to be the charging case is a bit more boxy and larger, which translates to the carrying case being a bit more substantial. The first generation case is really just a soft sack everything can be dropped into.

The biggest change that DJI added in the Mic 2 when it released with the Pocket 3 was 32-bit float audio recording. This allows much more room when it comes to editing the audio and reduces clipping, however it can only be used when recording directly to the transmitter.

New colors!

Okay so this is obviously the most important part of the refresh, right?

According to the leaks DJI’s Mic 2 will finally come in a different color, Pearl White. Along side the tradition Shadow Black, this now gives buyers an option as to what color mic they might want attached to their chest.

This might seem like it’s more of a fashion choice, which it kinda is still, but for those using these mics in a professional scenario, this could be useful. While the DJI Mic will never be something easy to blend in if you aren’t using a lavalier, but having the choice to put either a dark or white colored transmitter could make it’s placement on clothes less distracting.

Sadly the case and charging cable will not be color matched. That one is probably a better thing because that bag would end up looking absolutely filthy in a few weeks.

Another design change noticeable in the leaks is with the receiver. It now features a dial on it for operations. What operations it will do is unknown but it will be a grateful change from everything being on the small touch screen like the first generation.

See you all tomorrow morning with hopefully more details!
