Not happy with Mavic 2 and DJI Goggles Racing Edition Combo

When you buy the Mavic 2 from DJI’s online store, you have the option to include the DJI Goggles Racing Edition Combo for an additional $449. In the top right corner, there’s a blue link that says “What’s the difference?” Well, the difference seems to be that customers who opt for the DJI Goggles RE Combo are a lot less satisfied with their purchase then the ones who didn’t include the goggles to their purchase.

Not happy with DJI Goggles Racing Edition Combo

Drone pilots, who included the DJI Goggles Racing Edition to their Mavic 2 purchase, claim that when they fly with the goggles the range of their Mavic 2 is severely impacted and some operators even report losing the signal to their drone completely. When the drone is flown without the use of the goggles the range is back to normal again and also the signal loss issue disappears. Other customers have said that they are not able to bind or link their goggles to the Mavic 2.

The unhappy customers have expressed their concerns on various drone forums, including the DJI one, urging the Chinese drone maker to resolve this situation. They say that it has been months now and that DJI has yet to provide a solution to the problem. Meanwhile, the DJI Mavic 2 and DJI Goggles Racing Edition Combo is still offered for sale on the official DJI website.

One drone pilot says that:

“When the Goggles RE are connected to Mavic 2 drones, the range is extremely limited in distance. My M2Z loses signal, w/o warning, at 1000ft precisely (+/-50ft). AS SOON AS I POWER OFF GOGGLES, SIGNAL COMES BACK STRONG AND I CAN FLY FOR MILES!”

While another pilot says that a more descriptive explanation is:

“When the Controller w/ iPhone and the DJI Goggles RE are both connected to the M2P, the maximum flight distance is roughly 300m horizontally and 80m vertically, before the Controller w/ iPhone and DJI Goggles RE loses video connection. Interestingly both devices freeze on the same frame.”

Or this one:

“Hi, just got delivery of my Mavic 2 Zoom and DJI Goggles RE. I kept getting signal loss and also video loss even when the aircraft is 100 metres from me. It seems to be worse and the images freeze with an error message when I connect the DJI Goggles RE. Have updated all firmware to the latest, tried deleting the DJI Go 4 app, reinstalled it. Same problem. Tried linking the remote controller and the goggles, still same problem. Please help!”

And if you search the forums, you will find many more similar threads.

Some of the unhappy drone pilots have reached out to DroneDJ and asked us to help get DJI’s attention in the hope that the issues with the Goggles Racing Edition Combo will be resolved in a firmware update soon.

We have yet to test these issues ourselves with the Mavic 2 Pro but we are planning to do so as soon as the temperatures rise above freezing here in NY. In the meantime, we are curious to hear about your experience with the DJI Mavic 2 and DJI Goggles Racing Edition Combo. If you have bought this combo, please let us know in the poll below if you have had any issues, such as limited range of signal loss, when flying your Mavic 2 while using the DJI Goggles Racing Edition. Thank you.
