DJI Smart Controller for the Mavic 2 Zoom, Pro and Enterprise to be launched at CES 2019

Contrary to earlier reports, it seems that DJI is planning to launch the DJI ‘Pro’ Remote Controller at CES 2019. However, instead of calling it Pro, DJI has changed the name to DJI Smart Controller. Early this morning the promotional video of the DJI Smart Controller was released on YouTube. The video provides us with all the most important information about the new device.

DJI Smart Controller

DJI claims that with the new DJI Smart Controller flying has become a whole lot… you guessed it… smarter! The device features a 5.5″ display that is 2x brighter than your smartphone. The DJI Smart Controller runs on Google’s Android platform and allows you to use a number of different apps.

The DJI Smart Controller is compatible with the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom, Pro and Enterprise drones. It uses OcuSync 2.0 for a better and more solid transmission that extends the range up to 5 miles with a clearer video feed. The DJI Smart Controller also searches for the best signal strength and switches automatically to provide the strongest transmission signal.

Getting your drone into the air is up to 3x faster with the DJI Smart Controller. This may seem like an unimportant feature to most users but in case of life or death, a faster start-up time may actually save lives. I’m sure first responders, firemen and law enforcement officials will welcome this feature.

The DJI Smart Controller provides a 4K 60p HDMI out to an external monitor or recording device. The controller can be fully charged in two hours and can be used for 2.5 hours before the batteries run out. It will operate in temperatures from minus 20 degrees Celsius (-4 F) to 40 degrees Celsius (104 F). The DJI Smart Controller will also allow you to upload images and video straight to your phone for sharing online.

DJI Smart Controller pricing

Even though the DJI Smart Controller is listed as out of stock on DJI’s website, it does provide us with pricing information. When you buy the DJI Smart Controller in combination with a DJI Mavic 2 Pro or Zoom, you ‘only’ pay $400 extra for the smart controller.

“The DJI Smart Controller was designed to maximize the flying experience. Compatible with the Mavic 2 and other OcuSync 2.0 aircraft, it offers crystal-clear live feeds, while an ultra-bright 5.5-inch screen displays vivid images, even in direct sunlight. With intuitive controls, pre-installed features, easy file sharing, and much more, flying just got a whole lot smarter.”
