Breaking News: Just now, we were notified by one of our readers that the new DJI Mavic 2 is already listed in the latest Argos catalog with photo and details. The Chinese drone maker will be launching two version of the popular foldable drone: the DJI Mavic 2 Pro with a 1-inch sensor and the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom with a 24-48mm zoom lens and ‘Dolly Zoom’ effect similar to the Parrot Anafi. The new DJI Mavic 2 was originally planned to be launched during a special event “See the Bigger Picture” in NYC on July 18th, but that was postponed for reasons that are still unclear to us. The fact that DJI’s latest foldable drone now appears in the catalog of an English retailer must indicate that the official launch cannot be far off. DJI Mavic 2 in Argos catalog
Just this morning, one of our readers (big thank you to Brett for sharing the photo and a big thank you to Mark Haslehurst for taking the photo) notified us through twitter of the fact the DJI latest foldable drone, the highly anticipated DJI Mavic 2 already showed up in the latest version of the Argos catalog.
Update: In an emailed statement to CNET and others, DJI confirmed the existence of the new drones:
“This preprinted catalogue was scheduled before we postponed our ‘See the Bigger Picture’ event to ensure we can deliver high-quality, cutting-edge technology to our customers according to our standard of innovation,” the company wrote. “This early look just hints at the many exciting features and capabilities DJI will announce at the proper time. We look forward to giving our fans an incredible drone experience as soon as we can.”
The listing in the catalog provides us with some details about the new foldable drone. It says:
“The Mavic 2 is a small yet powerful drone with 1080p video transmission and up to 8km (5 miles) transmission distance and a max speed of 20m/s (45mph). It will turn the sky into your creative canvas. Its compact size and 31-minute max flight time makes this one of DJI’s most sophisticated flying cameras ever. Omnidirectional obstacle sensing with APAS and Active Track 2.0 give you the confidence to take to the sky and capture your moment. Dolly Zoom (zoom version only). DJI Mavic 2 Pro & DJI Mavic 2 Zoom.”
The new DJI Mavic 2 will apparently come in two versions:
- The DJI Mavic 2 Pro with 1-inch CMOS sensor Hasselblad camera
- The DJI Mavic 2 Zoom with 2x optical zoom (24mm – 48mm)
The new DJI Mavic 2 will have:
- A top speed of 45mph vs. 40 mph for the original Mavic Pro
- 31-minute flight time vs. 27 minutes for the original Mavic Pro
- 1080p OcuSync video transmission for up to 5 miles
- Omnidirectional obstacle sensing with APAS
- Active Track 2.0
- Dolly Zoom (zoom version only)
Pricing is not yet determined.

About DJI’s gimbal camera setup
Unfortunately, the listing does not mention a removable gimbal as was speculated before. The camera/gimbal combination on the DJI Mavic 2 Zoom looks similar in terms of form factor to the original Mavic Pro and seems just as vulnerable. The DJI Mavic 2 Pro with the 1-inch CMOS sensor Hasselblad camera looks more robust. Neither one of the gimbal/camera setups has the built-in protection that the DJI Mavic Air offers. Fortunately, the omnidirectional obstacle avoidance should go a long way to prevent you from flying into things.
