Government shutdown affects CES® 2019 programming

The ongoing partial U.S. Government shutdown is even effecting CES 2019. Some of the government speakers will not be able to make it to the consumer electronics show. Currently, it seems that about 10 speakers have cancelled but that the keynote from U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao will still take place on Wednesday at 11am.

In an official statement from Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, Consumer Technology Association (CTA) we were informed that:

“Because of the government shutdown, some of our scheduled government speakers at CES 2019 have alerted us that they must cancel their travel to the show. As a result, some of our scheduled CES 2019 programming and speakers will change. We urge attendees who planned to hear US federal government speakers to check the sessions on the website to ensure those individuals are still speaking. Our Speakers Directory can be found here. This page will be updated regularly.”

CTA spokeswoman, Sarah Brown said that 10 government speakers have cancelled as a result of the government shutdown so far. They are from the Federal Trade Commission, Department of Homeland Security, Federal Communications Commission and several other agencies. There are no plans to replace these speakers unfortunately.

As of now it seems that the keynote from U.S. Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao will still take place on Wednesday at 11am. The Secretary will be talking about the future of drones and self-driving technology and how they will revolutionize transportation.
