This morning we woke up to a new photo of the DJI Osmo Pocket. Remember, back in July when we saw one of the first leaked photos of the Mavic 2 Pro. In the lower left corner, there was this little black device lying on the table that looked like a new Osmo model. Yes, that one. Well, it’s coming. Maybe as soon as November 28th!
DJI Osmo Pocket leaked photos
Recently, we reported on the FCC filing for a device called the DJI Osmo Pocket Wireless Module. Today we see a new photo, posted on Twitter by @OsitaLV of a black, DJI branded device that looks a lot like a handheld, gimbal action camera.
The shape of the camera itself looks very similar to the camera of the DJI Mavic 2 Pro but without the Hasselblad logo. From the photo, it is hard to say if it will be the same camera and sensor from the M2P.
About the DJI Osmo Pocket
The front of the device shows a display, two buttons (one record button) and two more buttons, a switch and a control wheel on an accessory attached to the main device. The attached piece could be used for controlling the angle of the camera or it could be a follow focus or zoom control. Somebody mentioned on Twitter that the design looked really bad with the control wheel seemingly stuck onto the device. Well, remember that photo from back in July? That picture showed a charging connector stuck in that same place. So, it seems that DJI wanted to make this action camera gimbal as pocketable and travel-friendly as possible with different accessories that can be attached. Smart design!
Competition for the GoPro Hero 7 Black?
Interestingly, GoPro just released the GoPro Hero 7 Black with the HyperSmooth feature and now DJI seems to come out with the Osmo Pocket. Coincidence? Nothing is known about the pricing on the Osmo Pocket at this point. The last time DJI, released the Osmo 2 is was priced very aggressively at $129. Release date?
When will we see the DJI Osmo Pocket come to market? Well, that is the million dollar question, isn’t it? DJI has announced a special event, ‘Because Life is Big‘, in New York City on November 28th. The perfect time to launch a new product, right before the Holiday shopping season. Will it be the new Phantom 5, which would make for a very expensive Christmas, or will it be a likely much more budget-friendly DJI Osmo Pocket? I have my money on the Phantom 5, but I might be wrong. We will know in about a week’s time! ;-)
