Skydio R1 Black Friday: Free backpack and battery – $278 value

For this year’s Skydio R1 Black Friday promotion, the company offers you a free second battery ($149) and a custom Skydio backpack ($129) when you purchase the R1 drone. No discount on the $1,999 drone itself, unfortunately. Still, a very nice promotion, because the fully autonomous drone doesn’t easily fit into most regular backpacks as we learned ourselves. Also, the extra battery comes in nicely as the flight time is a mere 16 minutes, due to all the processing taking place onboard this aircraft. The Skydio R1 Black Friday and Cyber Monday promotion for the R1 drone will run from Friday through Monday.

Skydio R1 Black Friday promotion

Skydio offers a free backpack and battery when you buy their R1 drone. This represents a $278 value and you can take advantage of this promotion starting on Black Friday through Cyber Monday.

The Skydio R1 drone is not cheap at $1,999, but it is the first fully autonomous drone, or as the company likes to call it: “the self-flying camera.” The R1 drone was launched earlier this year and had been updated throughout the year. It now offers new flight modes and can be flown straight from your Apple watch.

Specifications

The Skydio R1 drone comes equipped with a 4K, 30fps gimbal stabilized camera (in addition to the 12 cameras used for autonomous flying) and can be flown straight from your smartphone. As an autonomously flying drone, there really is no need for a separate controller.

The R1 is made with aerospace materials, including lightweight aluminum and carbon fiber and it can be launched from any flat surface or from your hand. It has several different flying modes available: follow, lead, side, orbit, tripod, and a car follow feature. You can select these features on your phone. You can also tap to follow, adjust the angle of the shot or take full control and fly the drone yourself while keeping the obstacle avoidance activated.
