FCC certifies DJI OSMO Mobile 2 ahead of CES 2018

Ahead of the CES 2018 event in Las Vegas, the rumor mills start speeding up. Today, we learned that the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) certified the DJI OSMO Mobile 2 on December 11, 2017. Does this mean that DJI will unveil a new OSMO 2 at the largest consumer electronics show? Maybe, but not necessarily. In the same FCC filing, you can see that the photos are embargoed until January 25, so the OSMO Mobile 2 may also be released at a later point in time.

Buy the OSMO 1 for a discount or wait for the OSMO 2?

Currently, the three-axis smartphone stabilizer also known as the OSMO Mobile 1 is still discounted from $299 to $199 at the DJI store, which may be an indication that they are clearing their inventory. The discount was originally part of a larger DJI Holiday Season promotion but is still ongoing for select products, such as the Mavic Pro Alpine White, the Spark and the OSMO Mobile 1. Does this mean that these products will be replaced soon? Who knows, but it does seem likely.

The DJI OSMO Mobile 2 has the following model number: OM170.

We picked up a refurbished copy of the original OSMO Mobile 1 during the DJI Holiday promotion and we will be reviewing that shortly. How will the OSMO Mobile 2 better than the original? We hope that the battery life will be improved, the construction and buttons will be more solid and that the range of motion may be slightly increased t0 make the device more user-friendly.

Price and availability are still unknown but if we would have to guess, the new DJI OSMO Mobile 2 should start shipping in January of February and the pricing will likely be the original MSRP for the OSMO Mobile 1 at $299. The OSMO 1 will probably keep selling at $199 until it is sold out.
