With all the drone incidents that are reported, it is easy to forget that drones can also be used in a very positive or even life-saving way. Take this story for instance where an 82-year old lady was reported missing in Randolph County, North Carolina. Somehow she ended up in a cornfield and it is very easy to get lost in one of those. Randolph County NC Sheriffs Office brought in a drone to assist in the search. The drone provided a straight-down perspective and as you can see in the video below, that makes it much easier to spot people. It took less than 25 minutes to locate her and bring her safely back to her family.

Good news! Deputies responded to a missing elderly person on Thayer Road on Sunday November 5th around 11:30am. Deputies obtained information and began a search. K9 and a Sheriff’s Office Drone operator were called in to aid in the search. The search was slowed due to difficult terrain and a corn field. The Drone pilot, Officer Adam Krolfifer was able to locate the missing person within 25 minutes. The Drone program at the Sheriff’s Office is one of our newest projects and one more project in our effort of going from “Good to Great” in professional community service. I am thankful to hear the good news of the safe return of the missing person. The family expressed their gratitude for the quick response.
